A building that has been given over to teaching since its foundations.
The library occupies one of the buildings that were part of the Santo Domingo convent, in the heart of Mexico City. It is the so-called Patio de los Generales, because the classes in the main subjects were taught there.
1994. The Biblioteca Nacional de Educación SNTE opens, with a restoration and remodelling project by the architects Aja, Ondarza y Santos: a modern intervention in a seventeenth-century building.
2000. The Programa Editorial del SNTE, led by Laura Barcia, takes over the running of the library and invites the architect Juan Carlos Vidaña to take part in recovering its rooms. Lighting and refurbishment proposals are developed with a team of graphic artists, bibliographers and restorers.
The building's new chapter opened with MATRASPOOL, an exhibition by the artist Mariano Villalobos.
